The chemical reactions that cause the consumption of chocolate in the brain are incredible. And this is because cocoa contains at least 300 chemicals, including caffeine and theobromine (which are stimulants) and phenylethylamine, a substance that also occurs naturally in the brain related to love. It seems that the brain of people in love contains large amounts of phenylethylamine and this substance could be responsible for the “side effects” that love produces, such as excitement, insomnia, or tachycardia.
